History of the ABB childcare centers

How it all started

1966: The first BBC childcare center

In 1966, the first, then still BBC childcare center was opened in Baden for the children of employees. The background was the rise of employment of predominantly Italian guest workers and their difficult social situation. Even then, BBC recognized its social responsibility towards its employees and society. The primary goal was to care for the children during working hours and to bring them closer to the new, still unfamiliar Switzerland.

Other cribs between 1973 and 1993

In 1973, another nursery was established at the Turgi site, and only about 20 years later, the third nursery was opened in 1993 in Oerlikon.

1996: Foundation of the association

In 1996, ABB Switzerland decided to transform the nurseries into a legally independent association. This was the starting signal for opening up to the outside.

From now on, external companies could also participate in the nurseries by becoming club members. This opening increased the demand for childcare places on one hand, while on the other hand, it also secured financing. To this day, around 30 companies have joined the association. At the same time, childcare has also changed and professionalized.

2011: Introduction of the Balanced Scorecard

In 2011, the ABB Children’s Crèches Association introduced the Balanced Scorecard. This management and control tool helps us to manage our business more systematically and professionally.

2016: 20th Anniversary

The association was able to celebrate its 20th anniversary and nostalgically look back 50 years to when the first ABB daycare center was opened.

The ABB Children’s Crèches Association is a non-profit organization and is financed through parental contributions and membership fees from companies. Any potential surpluses are invested in the establishment of new, or the maintenance of existing, childcare facilities.
